Gong Li Quan - Power and Strength Boxing
Gong Li Quan is a famous martial art that orginated and has been practiced in Cangzhou in Hebei Province,
the area with long martial arts tradition. The style emphasizes both internal and external development -
hence its name : Gong - which here means Internal Power, and Li - Physical Strength. The practice of the style
focuses on developing specific power which is a combination of both internal and external strength. Gong Li Boxing
does not contain any flowery movements, all its techniques are practical and and have either defensive or attacking
applications. They combine hardness and softness with natural movements of the body and light footwork. The
methods of the system are not only combat-oriented, but also include health preserving component (Li Fuchen, one
of Gong Li Boxing masters died at the age of 109). In practice the breath should be coordinated with movements and
"urge" the power so that it could reach hands and feet and allow for swift responses - defense or attack - to opponent's action.
